YEREVAN. – We will not be a revolutionary opposition in the parliament.

Bright Armenia Party Chairman Edmon Marukyan stated the abovementioned at a press conference on Monday. He stated this, as he summed up the results of Sunday’s National Assembly election.

“The sole revolutionary force in parliament will be the political team that won in the elections [i.e. My Step Alliance],” Marukyan said. “Bright Armenia will be an institutional, reformist force; we are not for constant revolutions.”

He noted that the development of parliamentarism and the strengthening parliamentary oversight shall be among the key tasks of the post-revolutionary period in Armenia.

“In addition, it’s important to raise the level of parliamentary diplomacy in the country,” Marukyan noted. “The National Assembly shall have a clear position on some foreign political matters, and be able to make it reach its destination.”

The Bright Armenia Party leader added that the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict’s resolution within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, as well as the restoration of balance between the Armenian and Azerbaijani armed forces also shall be among the key priorities of Armenia’s new legislature.

As reported earlier, a snap National Assembly election was conducted Sunday in Armenia. As a result, the Bright Armenia Party came in third, the Prosperous Armenia Party placed second, and, as expected, the My Step Alliance won this vote by a landslide. These three political forces have won corresponding number of seats in the new parliament.
