The domestic political situation in Iran is far from being a revolutionary one, Vardan Voskanyan, Dean of the Department of oriental Studies, Yerevan State University, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to him, the Iranian authorities will overcome the domestic political tension as they do not face a confidence problem. “The overwhelming majority of Iranian population is supportive of the incumbent authorities,” the expert said.

The latest domestic developments in Iran should be viewed in the context of external influence. However, Vosyakyan said, the situation in Iran should not be compared with that in Egypt or Tunsia. “Social discontent accounted for the developments in Egypt and Tunisia, whereas most of the Iranian population are socially secure,” the expert said.
