YEREVAN. – After the “velvet revolution,” the government succeeded in not only maintaining stability, but also in evading recessionary economic processes as well as ensuring economic growth.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Thursday noted the aforesaid at the National Assembly of Armenia, during the debates on the 2018 activity report of the government.

In Pashinyan’s words, the government also managed to ensure the most transparent and democratic elections in the history of Armenia, and which were considered as such by the international community.

“Yes, in that period we had a drop in the agricultural sector,” the PM added. “[But] it was linked to pests, incorrect planning, as well as shadow [economy] gardens which we have succeeded in detecting.”

Speaking about high tech, Pashinyan stated that the Armenian authorities continue preparations for the 2019 World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT), which capital city Yerevan will host in October.

“Construction of the engineering city [in Armenia] is a priority task that shall be implemented,” he added.

Also, Nikol Pashinyan assured that the proposed equalization of income tax in Armenia is aimed, first and foremost, at IT development in the country, since the government plans to open new jobs in this sector—and with high and dignified salaries.
