YEREVAN. - At Thursday’s Cabinet meeting, the government of Armenia approved the project to move the vehicle customs clearance office from capital city Yerevan to Gyumri.

A 21.5-hectare area belonging to the Ministry of Defense will be allocated, and 181 million drams will be needed for the setting up of this automobile customs house in Gyumri.

According to the project, this vehicle customs office will comprise customs clearance departments, a parking lot, and a center for foreign economic activity.

“An unprecedented large amount of car imports is expected from non-EAEU [Eurasian Economic Union] member states,” State Revenue Committee chairman Davit Ananyan said. “For this reason, we have launched this project very urgently and very quickly on the instruction of the Prime Minister.

“[A total of] 68 thousand cars have been imported, from January 1 to July 31 of this year, whereas 67 thousand cars were imported during the whole of last year.”

Ananyan informed that even though the computed cost for the implementation of this project is 2.2 billion drams, today they ask to allocate 181 million drams, and announcing the launch of the project.
