The fight against the criminal subculture, which is centuries-old and has actively evolved during the absence of statehood or during the period of weakness of the State, needs to start in schools and universities, not just from the adoption of legal acts. This is what deputy of the Bright Armenia faction of the National Assembly Taron Simonyan said during a discussion on the package of bills on criminalization of the criminal subculture today.

According to him, if such subculture is shown on television, in films or soap operas that praise the subculture, the adoption of new laws will in no way allow to prevent the formation of a certain notion of this lifestyle among the youth. “This law becomes a catalyzer and contributes to further enhancement of such a lifestyle in society,” Simonyan said and called on his colleagues to not be guided by emotions.

The deputy also mentioned that even though Bright Armenia Party isn’t against the fight against such a subculture, it believes that there are gaps and inaccuracies in the bill that require revision and that the package of bills needs to be revised again.
