The sides of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict need to show restraint in order to find an effective solution and settle the conflict. This is what Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko declared during her meeting with Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan held as part of the events of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in Saint Petersburg today, reports TASS.

“The situation in the region is currently peaceful, but what concerns us is the rhetoric, which doesn’t contribute to the creation of a favorable atmosphere to find a solution in order to settle the conflict. It seems to me the sides need to show more restraint in order to find solutions based on mutual concessions and move forward. Russia will do everything it can to play the role of intermediary effectively,” she said.

“The lack of aggressive rhetoric is more than important because aggressive rhetoric doesn’t allow to take steps towards a settlement of the conflict. As far as the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is concerned, as in the past, Armenia continues to attach great importance to it, and the country is grateful to Russia for its role as an intermediary. The Armenian authorities believe in peaceful dialogue and the peaceful settlement of the conflict,” Ararat Mirzoyan said in his turn.
