The American aircraft company Boeing will shed initial 2,500 workers, the Wall Street Journal reported referring to the union representatives.

According to union representatives, the first wave of layoffs may be announced on May 29, and it will affect the company’s division in Seattle. Boeing is expected to reduce the number of jobs in central offices as well.

This year, Boeing plans to reduce about 10% of the total number of employees by 160 thousand due to a decrease in aircraft production: airlines do not buy new planes due to falling passenger traffic. In April they did not receive a single order for the supply of aircraft.
