During a press conference in Brussels, a representative of the European Commission refused to comment on the threat of possible US sanctions with regard to Nord Stream 2 and said the European Union has always supported and stays true to transparency and strict observance of the European and international energy legislation.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday reported that the Department of State has made recommendations within the scope of the law on countering Russia through sanctions, including in the document Nord Stream 2 and the second thread of Turkish Stream.

“First, we don’t interpret comments or threats. The EU imposes sanctions on almost all companies that are involved in unlawful activities. The EU has always supported transparency and observance of European and international energy laws,” the European Commission representative said.
