Lebanese parliament will meet on Friday to discuss a letter from the president, which says Prime Minister-appointed Saad al-Hariri is unable to form a government that could lead the country out of the financial crisis, Reuters reported.

Lebanon's current government has been acting in its interim since stepping down following the bombing of the port of Beirut last August.

Hariri, who has headed several previous governments, was asked to form a new one in October 2020 after the previous appointed prime minister was unable to form a technocratic cabinet after weeks of trying.

Western and other donors, led by France, have said that Lebanon needs to form a viable cabinet of technocrats before they commit funds to support the country. Talks with the International Monetary Fund were unsuccessful.
