Serbia and Kosovo have reached an agreement to reduce tension on the border that was caused by a dispute over state license numbers of vehicles, EU mediator Miroslav Lajcak said on Thursday.

Lajcak said an agreement was reached on new de-escalation and future actions after two-day intensive negotiations.

Last week, Kosovo’s government sent special police troops to border checkpoints to establish a new rule for removing Serbian state license numbers from vehicles entering the country and declared that the ten-year validity period had expired. The Serbs of Kosovo have closed the border with trucks, and people can only cross the border by foot.
