The European Court of Human Rights today announced the verdict in the case of Pashinyan v. Armenia.
The case concerns the applicant's conviction for participating in a protest movement following the February 19, 2008, presidential election.
The ECtHR found the following violations of the European Convention on Human Rights:
Violation of Article 11 - Freedom of assembly and association (Article 11-1 - Freedom of peaceful assembly)
Violation of Article 5 - Right to liberty and security (Article 5-1 - Lawful arrest or detention)
The incumbent Prime Minister of Armenia did not demand monetary compensation from the state.
The case concerns the imprisonment of opposition figure Pashinyan, which took place after the 2008 elections, when Pashinyan supported presidential candidate Levon Ter-Petrosyan. He was detained from October 2009 to January 2010.
