The military relations between Iran and Azerbaijan will considerably develop and it will make both states more secure, said the Iranian Armed Forces Chief of Staff, Major General Mohammad Bagheri.

His remarks came during his meetings with Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov, IRNA reported.

Bagheri expressed hope that Hasanov's visit to Iran could be a good opportunity to develop and strengthen relations between the two states, especially on defense, technical and military issues.

The two sides exchanged views on how to ensure the security and reliable defense of the two states with the cooperation of the Armed Forces.

Pointing out the importance of the current visit, Bagheri said that the military relations between the two countries will certainly develop significantly, and this will lead to the security of both states. Bagheri also stated that Iran's policy is to develop relations with its neighbors and resist any occupation. According to him, Iran considers the preservation of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity as important as its own.

"The liberation of the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, which took place after three decades, made the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the Iranian nation happy," Mehr quoted Bagheri.
