Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan have signed a memorandum on the facilitation of transit traffic, the press service of the trade mission at the Russian embassy in Tehran reported, TASS reports.

"A memorandum between Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan on the simplification of transit traffic was signed in Tehran on August 22. The Russian side was represented at the talks by the head of the Federal Customs Service Vladimir Bulavin," the report says. It is also noted that "this document should help to simplify and speed up customs procedures for participants of foreign economic activity.

To date, the main overland route for cargo transit from Iran to Russia passes through Azerbaijan.
