Relations with Azerbaijan and Armenia are equally important for Russia, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at his talk—on Friday in Baku—with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, according to TASS news agency of Russia.

Medvedev noted that strategic partnership relations are developing between Moscow and Baku.

“[But] of course, now is not the simplest condition,” he added. “Unfortunately, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has escalated; I will not hide that this situation worries us [i.e. Russia] a lot. Relations with the two countries are exceptionally important for us.

“At the same time, we, as a [Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)] Minsk Group member, an accountable country and a [UN] Security Council permanent member, support the approaches that are formulated at UN level.”

Also, the Russian PM expressed the hope that sustainable peace will be established in the Karabakh conflict zone.

“The Russian Federation will do everything to settle the conflict,” Dmitry Medvedev added.
