After a long discussion, the Turkish Constitutional Court made a judgment on dissolution of the Kurdish Democratic Society Party (DTP).President of Constitutional Court Hasim Kilic said that the reason is the DTP’s cooperation with the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK), as well as a threat to Turkey’s territorial integrity. According to Kilic, the DTP leader Ahmed Turk and his party mates lost the right to be engaged in politics. Moreover, the Government confiscates the property and other funds of the party.

NEWS.am reported earlier that the Chief Prosecutor's Office of Turkey lodged a claim for DTP dissolution on November 16, 2007, accusing the party of actions jeopardizing Turkey’s territorial integrity. The claimant demanded that 221 DTP members be deprived of the right to political activities and listed 141 reasons for the party dissolution. Seven of the 11 members of the Turkish Constitutional Court were to vote for the judgment.

It is noteworthy that DTP members made frequent statements in Armenians’ favor in Turkish Parliament. Specifically, during the discussion of the Armenian-Turkish protocols, the young party member Selaedin Demirtas accused the Turkish authorities of including false information on the Armenian massacre in Turkish textbooks.

According to the former special squad soldier Ibrahim Sain, one of the arrestees in the Ergenekon case, the grandfather of the present DTP leader was an Armenian who changed his name for fear of persecutions in 1925.
