YEREVAN. - Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has sent his congratulatory message to the newly elected Pope Francis. The president congratulated the pontiff and sent his best wishes and on behalf of the Armenian nation.

In his message he particularly noted that Armenia hails Vatican's role not only as spiritual center but also as a defender of human rights and ethical norms, an advocate of tolerance, mutual understanding, and world peace. Twenty years old diplomatic relations between Armenia and Vatican, have always been distinguished by high level dialogue, including high-level mutual visits and close cooperation in various fields.
