YEREVAN. – The names of the companies, which aspire to become Armenia’s airline carrier, could become clear next week, 168 Zham daily reports.

“Following the approval of the concept of liberalization of Armenia’s air transport sector, the [Armenian Government-Affiliated] General Department of Civil Aviation will have to announce a contest.

“According to our information, PAP [i.e., non-pro-government Prosperous Armenia Party] former MP, Yerevan Champagne Wines Factory owner Versand Hakobyan likewise is among the contenders for the Armenian airline carriers.

“Several more companies, including Air Armenia which previously was engaged in cargo transportation, have already submitted applications,” 168 Zham writes.
