YEREVAN. – Democratic Party of Armenia condemned Yerevan municipality’s decision to raise public transport fares.

“Rise in prices of gas, electricity and consumer goods, increase in public transport fares is a tough blow to our population,” the party said in a statement.

The party is confident before taking such move, the government had to increase the wages and pensions, while the municipality had to provide better quality of transport services.

Democratic Party pledged its support to young activists struggling for their rights. The party has called to unite and continue paying AMD 100 instead of 150, in order to make the municipality announce its decision invalid.

Public transport fares in Armenia’s capital rose by 1.5-2 times starting from July 20. The bus fare made AMD 100 instead of 50, while minibus fare increased from AMD 100 to 150.
