YEREVAN. – The Labor and Social Affairs Ministry of Armenia is studying the impact of the recent public transport fare hike on the socially disadvantaged class of the society.

Labor and Social Affairs Minister Artem Asatryan stated the above-said during a briefing with news reporters on Thursday. 

He informed that certain measures will be taken once the analyses are completed, and there are about 100,000 needy families in Armenia.

To note, the capital city Yerevan Municipality decision to increase the public transport fares in the city has brought about outbursts, several groups are formed in the social networks, and the initiatives are staging protests and distributing pamphlets against this decision. In addition, the “Free Car” initiative is launched, along the lines of which Armenia’s numerous well-known personalities, MPs, and ordinary residents provide—with their own vehicles—free transportation to the people.
