YEREVAN. – A criminal case is opened against a police officer of Armenia, and in connection with a fatal road accident.

While driving a Mercedes-Benz E-240, capital city Yerevan resident, Police Senior Lieutenant Karen Melkonyan ran over Yerevan resident, pedestrian Artash Gasparyan (born in 1942) in front of a building in Yerevan, on July 22 at around 9:15pm, informs the press service of the Special Investigation Service.     

Gasparyan was transferred to hospital, where he died, without regaining consciousness, on the same day.

A criminal case, on charges of violation of traffic and transport vehicle operation rules, is opened. 

An investigation is in progress.
