Yerevan’s Covered Market matter can be considered closed – newspaper

YEREVAN. – Armenian capital city Yerevan’s former Covered Market, which will become another supermarket of MP and businessman Samvel Aleksanyan, is already being complemented with equipment, reports Haykakan Zhamanak daily.    

“The supermarket is expected to start operations on September 1. Therefore the matter of the Covered Market can be considered closed.

“The destruction of the Covered Market showed that any oligarch in Armenia can do whatever he wants. At the same time, he will do it in broad daylight, in front of everyone.     

“Now, the building has turned into everything but a monument. And all this [occurred] under the wave of protest by the civil society, dozens of architects, political forces, and the press,” Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
