YEREVAN. – Armenia’s position of becoming a Customs Union member has made the signing of the Armenia-EU Association Agreement virtually impossible, and this has taken place in a very humiliating situation for the Armenian authorities.

Opposition MP and former FM Alexander Arzumanyan noted the aforementioned during a press conference on Thursday.

In Arzumanyan’s words, this situation, when Armenia was holding talks with EU for 3.5 years but all of a sudden announced that it plans to join the Customs Union, has caused bewilderment in Europe.

“Europe is unable to decide in this situation. That is why the press release notes that they are ready to listen to the Armenian party.

“First, the FMs of the seven countries, which had launched the talks with Armenia, responded by stating that it is impossible to combine the Customs Union with the Association Agreement,” Alexander Arzumanyan said.
