April 24, paying tribute to the Armenian Genocide Victims in Tsitserbakaberd Memorial, RA President Serzh Sargsyan visited the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute and familiarized himself with the new expositions of documentary photographs and publications on Armenian Genocide of the world mass media.

These documents are compiled based on testimonies of Armenian Genocide survivors and foreign diplomats, missionaries, journalists, travelers as well as other eyewitnesses of the crime.

The publications are indirect evidence of Armenian Genocide, committed under Ottoman Empire in 1915, RA Presidential press service informed NEWS.am.

April 24, RA President Serzh Sargsyan and his spouse visited Armenian Genocide memorial–Tsitsernakaberd.

President was accompanied by Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, Parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan, Premier Tigran Sargsyan, ministers, MPs, representatives of foreign diplomatic missions, military officials, Armenian Diaspora representatives, numerous guests who came to pay tribute to the memory of Genocide victims, intellectuals and workers of culture.

Ecumenical service was held in the St. Gregory the Ilumminator Cathedral (Surp Grigor Lusavorich).

During World War I the government of Ottoman Empire organized barbaric extermination of about 1.5 Armenians, turning Western Anatolia into a desert. April 24, 1915 Armenian intellectuals of Turkey were arrested in Constantinople. April 24 is a Remembrance Day of Genocide victims and is commemorated in many countries each year.

Armenian Genocide is recognized and condemned by a number of countries and international organizations. It is officially recognized by Uruguay, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Greece, Cyprus, Slovakia, Argentina, Canada, the Vatican, Lebanon, Chile, Sweden and others. Forty-two out of 50 states of U.S. officially recognized Genocide and proclaimed April 24 – Genocide Remembrance Day.
