YEREVAN. – Russia does not have demographic future without the immigration flow, Armenian demographer Ruben Yeganyan said at a press conference on Friday.

Reflecting on Armenia’s forthcoming accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the respective immigration situation, he expressed a view that the EEU immigration laws will function as they are at present; that is, there will be no significant changes.    

“Even a Russian citizen, who moves from one dwelling place to the other, is considered a migrant, and [therefore] he needs to comply with all the obligations.

“Russia has introduced the system of a language proficiency test; they have passed from an interview to an examination system. This is a ‘domain of injustice’ from the demographic perspective; they [, Russia,] can’t do without the foreign labor force,” Ruben Yeganyan stressed, in particular.
