Yerevan will continue the fight for the international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, since this is a national security issue for Armenia.

Armenia’s Ambassador to Russia, Oleg Yesayan, stated the abovementioned.

“Ultimately, we[, Armenians], becoming victims to genocide, assumed an obligation not solely before our own nation, but the future generations. We shall be the flagbearer of this fight,” the ambassador stated at a conference on the centenary of the genocide, reported RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.

The Armenian diplomat noted, however, that the problem is that there is political apathy in the world to this day, and political convenience is even more apparent.

“And everyone needs the condemnation,” Yesayan said, and added: “The normalization of relations between our [two] nations is inevitable, but concrete steps are needed for that.”

He noted, however, that the Armenian Genocide commemorations are not aimed against Turkey, or the Turkish nation.

“What is more, we are happy that they [i.e. the Turks], too, are voicing words of common sense,” Oleg Yesayan said. “ We are confident that a universal condemnation [of the Armenian Genocide] is inevitable, and it will come.”
