YEREVAN. – The PACE’s—i.e. the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe—paying tribute to the Armenian Genocide victims was a key event during the days of the Genocide Centennial commemorations. .  

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, Didier Reynders, noted the aforesaid at Monday’s joint news conference in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan, and with his Armenian counterpart, Edward Nalbandian.

In his words, Belgium has already had the occasion to say its piece in this connection.

“In particular, Belgium has petitioned to the Turkish authorities, calling them to come up with an initiative in the Armenian Genocide issue. I would like to recall that we opened an exhibition in the PACE, and the [incumbent] president of the organization has attended the [centennial] memorial ceremonies,” Reynders said. “I considered it my duty to also visit the [Armenian Genocide] Memorial [in Yerevan] to express support for the Armenian people on behalf of our [country’s] parliament, the Senate.”  

The Belgian FM also informed that a European Union ministerial meeting will be held in his country on May 19, during which the fight against racism and discrimination will be discussed.
