YEREVAN. – The founding congress of the Civil Accord initiative of Armenia will convene on May 30, initiative group member Arayik Harutyunyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He noted that even though the agenda of the congress is not yet complete, the key issue will be the discussions on whether the initiative should become a political party. 

“If this decision is made, the [party] charter and platform will be approved, thereon there will be [party] board elections,” Harutyunyan added.   

To our query on their expectations, and whether they will be able to instill hopes among people and change the unenthusiastic political climate in Armenia, the Civil Accord initiative member said if they had no such expectations, they would not have undertaken this task.

Arayik Harutyunyan added that once the party is founded, they plan to apply several tools such as abolishing “super leadership,” and conducting debates and discussions.   

Seven people, including Karabakh War veteran and former MP Sasun Mikayelyan and opposition Armenian National Congress Party MP Nikol Pashinyan, are elected members of the governing board of the Civil Accord initiative.
