Armenian specialists took part in an International Seminar on Forest Landscape Restoration held by the US Forest Service in Oregon, Spatial News portal reports trough the website of GeoCommunity.

Forest landscape restoration professionals from 16 countries, representing ministries, NGOs and private companies, gathered to learn from the United States’ experience.

Practitioners from Armenia, Brazil, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Israel, Malawi, Rwanda, Turkey, Zambia and many other countries took part in the three-week learning event.

Through technical presentations, exercises and field visits to restoration sites across the state of Oregon, the participants learned the variety of techniques for restoration applied in the United States.

The seminar also allowed participants to share their own experience in forest landscape restoration and identify common opportunities and constraints.

Four billion acres of degraded and deforested land world-wide—an area the size of South America—are in need of restoration. Restoration helps address the most pressing global challenges, from protecting biodiversity to providing food, energy and water, to offering opportunities for millions of people.
