YEREVAN. – Armenian MP positively assessed the NATO summit and Armenia's participation in the event. 

Secretary Heritage faction party Tevan Poghosyan recalled that many issues were discussed during the summit and it is good that Armenia is represented at the highest level:.

“Armenia should be able to present its interests and problems. To some extent this participation provides protection, as the summit can be used by our enemies, Azerbaijan or Turkey. We get an opportunity not to leave possible demarches unanswered,” Poghosyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

As for the NATO-Russia confrontation, MP considers that there is no danger for Armenia.

“We simply have to be able to be guided by our own interests, and to understand that in the clash of two great forces we do not play the role that may ensure the interests of one party or another. We must not be afraid of a NATO air defense systems in Eastern Europe, because it is a defensive system,” the MP added.

Asked whether Armenia can maneuver amid confrontation between Russia and the West, Poghosyan said: “I do not think that there will be military actions between NATO and Russian, but even if there are, both sides are well aware that Armenia will not have the value for which they will be forced to take steps. Armenia is one of the best partners of NATO, and is considered a strategic ally of Russia. I am sure that amid NATO-Russia confrontation, we are always able to negotiate and explain that they do not have to use Armenia to solve their problems,” Poghosyan emphasized.

AS to the issue whether Russia might be jealous of NATO-Armenia relations and might force Yerevan to abandon this position, the MP said: “Everything is possible, but perhaps our country will be able to find solutions to all these problems. Armenia should simply carry out a more flexible policy. “
