German deputies must have the right to visit Incirlik base in Turkey where several hundreds of German troops are deployed, Chancellor Angela Merkel said.

“We are an army of parliamentarians. This means the members of Bundestag must have an opportunity to visit soldiers who are serving in Turkey,” she said.

In turn, Chairman of Bundestag Norbert Lammert did not rule out that the German troops might be withdrawn, Süddeutschen Zeitung reported.

In June Turkey banned German delegation’s visit to Incirlik in connection with the resolution acknowledging the Armenian Genocide which was adopted by Bundestag.
