Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry did not discuss the possibility of military cooperation of Russia and the U.S. in Syria, as well as did not  agree on the fate of the president of the country Bashar al-Assad, Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated.

According to him, various formats of interaction were discussed, but the subject of direct cooperation and interaction of military in respect of fight against terrorism was not been included. He noted that the parties did not significantly get closer to real cooperation in order to increase the effectiveness of efforts on fight against terrorism in Syria. Communication, which was constructive, rather frank and detailed, was continued, Peskov concluded.

The parties also did not agree about whether the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad should leave his post. The West insists on Assad's leaving as a necessary condition of settlement of the Syrian conflict. Russia, on the contrary, tries to protect Assad. According to Peskov, the well-known position of Russia has not been changed.
