British Prime Minister Theresa May urged U.S. President Donald Trump to “beware” of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Telegraph reported.

“When it comes to Russia, as so often it is wise to turn to the example of President Reagan who, during negotiations with his opposite number Mikhail Gorbachev, used to abide by the adage ‘trust but verify’. With President Putin, my advice is to ‘engage but beware’,” May said in her speech at the annual Republican gathering in Philadelphia.

She also stated that the UK and the U.S. should stand up for their interests.

“The days of Britain and America intervening in sovereign countries in an attempt to remake the world in our own image are over”, she said.

However, she noted that now it is the time to renew special relations between two countries and to assume the leading role in the modern world.
