YEREVAN. - The protection of the Armenian population in Syria requires their repatriation to their historic homeland.

Expert of the Armenian Center for Political and International Research, political scientist Ruben Mehrabyan, told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am on Saturday.

However, according to him, the Armenian side does nothing with this respect.

“We leave our compatriots hostage to the Syrian crisis. Moreover, Armenia could make use of financial opportunities for improving the condition of repatriated Syrian Armenians but it doesn’t make use of them,” Mehrabyan said.

In his words, unlike Turkey, Armenia doesn’t apply to relevant instances for this.

Armenia is the second country in Europe, which hosted such a great number of refugees in correlation to the number of its population, Mehrabyan added.
