The measures introduced by German foreign office in relation to Turkey are necessary and mandatory, Chancellor Angela Merkel said.
Earlier on Thursday German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said they would review economic policy towards Ankara as well as credit and investment projects over the arrest of human rights defenders in Turkey.
Foreign ministry toughened recommendations for Germans traveling to Turkey.
“Merkel: The measures announced by the Foreign Minister against Turkey are necessary and unavoidable,” government spokesman Steffen Seibert tweeted.
