The UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura on Firday urged three guarantors of the Astana process- Russia, Turkey and Iran - to discuss de-escalation zones in Syria, Reuters reported.

According to the statement, read out by U.N. spokeswoman Alessandra Vellucci, De Mistura called for a ceasefire in the region to stop both bombings in Eastern Ghouta and mortal shelling in Damascus.

“The ceasefire needs to be followed by immediate, unhindered humanitarian access to eastern Ghouta and evacuation of sick and injured,” the source wrote.

As reported earlier, Russia, Turkey and Iran have agreed to set up de-escalation zones in Syria in September. De-escalation zones have been established in Eastern Ghouta, in Idlib province, in certain areas in the northern part of the Homs province, in certain areas in the provinces of Latakia, Hama and Aleppo, as well as in certain areas in southern Syria.
