The Turkish military intends to establish a naval base in the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to protect the interests of the countries in the Mediterranean Sea, Yeni Safak reported referring to the request of the Navy command to the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
Turkey is also considering the possibility of rebuilding the Gecitkale air base in Northern Cyprus, which was previously used by the Turkish military aircraft.
