The Bishkek city court ruled on Wednesday the decision to arrest former Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev, said the lawyer of the former head of state Sergey Slesarev.

According to him, the Bishkek city court rejected the complaint about the illegality of the arrest and detention of the ex-president, RIA Novosti reported.

He noted that several days ago Atambayev’s lawyers were already trying to achieve a change in the preventive measure against the former head of the country in the court of the Pervomaisky district of the Kyrgyz capital. According to them, Atambayev was deprived by the parliament of ex-president status and immunity illegally, since the legislative body, according to the constitution, does not have such powers.

Nevertheless, the district court refused to change the preventive measure against the former head of state, who will be under arrest until at least October 26, 2019. Then the defenders decided to appeal the decision to a higher authority.
