US President Donald Trump says he might meet with President of Iran Hassan Rouhani during the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

“Of course, anything is possible. They would like to have a chance to solve their problems. They have more problems,” Trump told journalists during a briefing at the White House, adding that the US won’t lift sanctions on Iran.

Trump said he highly appreciates the efforts of President of France Emmanuel Macron to mediate talks between him and Rouhani, but the US will lead talks based on its conditions.

Trump stated that Iran has “tremendous” economic potential and assumed that the country’s leadership wouldn’t like to waste that potential by escalating tension.
