It was predictable that the Armenian authorities could start criminal prosecution against people who enjoy trust and authority in society, said ex-MP and representative of the former ruling Republican Party of Armenia Hovhannes Sahakyan.

According to him, such actions are aimed at distracting people's attention from pressing problems.

"There have been many such cases over the past three years, including the criminal case against the former mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan is also one of the same."

Taron Margaryan was charged with abuse of office.
