Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton held a telephone conversation on August 7. The officials discussed a wide range of bilateral and regional issues, including the situation in Syria.

Clinton expressed readiness to visit Damascus in the future to express concern over the recent developments to the Syrian leadership.

Clinton outlined the position of the Obama administration that Syria should immediately withdraw its forces to their barracks and release all detainees.

Clinton asked the Turkish FM to bring the U.S. position to official Damascus and reiterated U.S. support for democracy in Syria, ITAR-TASS reports.
