YEREVAN.- On the background of mass unrests going on in Syria for several months, the Armenian community should be neutral, and this is the best option.

Armenia should not attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of other states, head of Armenian parliament’s standing committee on foreign relations Armen Rustamyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

”However, there is an Armenian community in Syria, and naturally we are concerned about the situation there. Our community’s goal is to establish an early political stability. Armenian community in Syria should act on its own,” he said adding that neutrality is the best position.

Rustamyan stressed that the Armenian community should be guided by the priority interests of the Syrian people.

According to the UN, 2,800 people were killed and several thousands are considered missing as a result of mass protests in Syria. The protestors demand resignation of Syrian President Bashar al - Assad and political reforms.
