Turkey’s Ambassador to Canada, Rafet Akgunay, on Wednesday delivered a lecture at Tufts University, Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, in the United States.   

Even though the lecture was entitled “Turkey and the Middle East,” the Turkish Ambassador comprehensively reflected on the current phase of Armenian-Turkish relations. He specifically noted that the Armenian-Turkish protocols are suspended because official Yerevan has problems inside the country and also with the Armenian Diaspora, and it is unable to manifest a political will toward ratifying the protocols.  

But the Armenian students attending the lecture reminded the Turkish Ambassador that the US Secretary of State and other international community representatives have noted, on numerous occasions, that the ball is now in Turkey’s court, and there is no need to attempt to misinform the audience.

The Armenian students also pointed to Turkey’s steps toward denying the Armenian Genocide, to which the Turkish diplomat could not respond.
