A New York state judge has paused proceedings in U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's already-decided criminal case on charges related to a payment to a porn star, according to a document released on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

Judge Juan Mershan was to decide on Tuesday whether Trump's conviction could be overturned due to the Supreme Court's July ruling on presidential immunity. Trump was also scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 26.

On Sunday, prosecutors from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office sent an email to Merchan asking him to pause the proceedings in light of Trump's victory in the Nov. 5 election and inauguration in January 2025.

Trump asked the office to agree to the delay, prosecutors wrote.

“The People agree that these are unprecedented circumstances,” prosecutors wrote. Mershon has paused all proceedings in the case until Nov. 19.
