The price of gold rose more than 2 percent Monday morning, setting a new all-time high—surpassing $3,400 per troy ounce, according to trading data.

The June gold futures at COMEX—a division of the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX)—rose $72.04, or 2.16 percent, to $3,400.44 per troy ounce from the previous trading.

The May silver futures, however, fell 1.22 percent to $32.868 per ounce.
