Employees of the General Services Administration (GSA), which oversees US federal property and staffing of departments, inadvertently provided access to classified documents to more than 11,200 government employees, according to internal records reviewed by The Washington Post, the latter reports.

This illegal transfer of data by the GSA employees was carried out both during the administration of former US President Joe Biden and now, when Donald Trump holds the post of head of the White House. The first such incidents were recorded in early 2021, and the last case occurred last week.

An investigation has been launched into the leak. Documents obtained by The Washington Post show that the GSA employees unwittingly accessed a Google Drive folder containing classified documents on the agency’s entire staff of more than 11,200 people.

The leaked documents included information about a proposed blast-proof door for the White House Visitor Center, and the bank account details of a supplier involved in organizing Trump’s news conference.

In addition, according to The Washington Post, 10 of the 15 files in this folder were accessible not only for viewing, but also for editing.

At the moment, the IT department has identified the owners of these files and has restricted their sharing.
