The US Army (ground forces) plans to considerably increase its use of drones, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

The Pentagon expects to arm each army division with about 1,000 drones and thereby get rid of outdated weapons. The reason for this decision is the US military’s analysis of the Ukrainian conflict.

Drones have changed the format of military operations, as they can not only overcome enemy defenses, but also better detect the enemy’s hidden positions, according to military analysts.

In addition, the US plans to improve the supply of tablets to troops and provide them with internet link, as well as invest about $3 billion in the development of technology to combat enemy drones.

The total cost of respecting rearming the US military is estimated at $36 billion. The US Army plans to acquire such means, including by abandoning obsolete weapons, but such measures will require the approval of Congress.

The Army Force Structure Transformation Initiative was approved earlier this week by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

The US military wants to fully arm the ground forces with drones within two years.
