The dialogue on Armenia’s visa liberalization with the European Union (EU) continues. Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan stated this during Thursday’s National Assembly session debates on the 2026 state budget draft of Armenia.

According to her, the action plan for this visa liberalization was officially handed to the Armenian side on November 5. “The most important [thing], perhaps, is the security of documents. Significant progress has been recorded in the introduction of the biometric system [in Armenia],” Sargsyan said.

The interior minister noted that a respective agreement has been signed with a French company. The latter has established a closed joint-stock company in Armenia, and this company is actively working on the implementation of this program.

“In the coming days, we will start the production of ID card templates. As a result, in the second half of 2026, you will see the launch of the biometric system in the Republic of Armenia. Ultimately, our citizens will finally receive biometric passports and ID cards,” said the minister of internal affairs.
