Arpine Sargsyan, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia, met with Magnus Brunner, the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, during her visit to Belgium.

First Sargsyan, thanked Brunner for his leadership and constructive engagement in the Armenia-European Union (EU) visa liberalization process, and emphasized that Armenia is committed to implementing the benchmarks of the respective action plan with quality and proper procedure.

The minister noted that the first EU assessment mission on the implementation of the aforesaid action plan is in Armenia, and legal and policy support of the benchmarks will be discussed.

Also, the Armenian interior minister addressed the implementation of a number of measures outlined in the action plan, and, in particular, presented the tangible steps taken in the introduction of the biometric system, universal health insurance, and several other domains in Armenia.

In addition, Arpine Sargsyan highlighted Armenia’s cooperation with EU bodies Frontex and Europol, and noted that the country’s liaison officer candidacy will be submitted to Europol in the near future.

In turn, Magnus Brunner thanked the Armenian interior minister for joining the Global Alliance to Counter Migrant Smuggling and for delivering an address at its international conference. The EU commissioner thanked the minister also as Armenia’s chief negotiator for ensuring constructive dialogue within the framework of EU visa liberalization.

Details regarding Magnus Brunner’s visit to Armenia in March 2026 were discussed, too. Emphasizing the constructive cooperation, Brunner said he is looking forward to visiting Armenia.

Some other matters of mutual interest were also discussed, and the mutual commitment to continue effective cooperation was underlined.
