The Chinese authorities consider the US State Department's allegations that China has conducted nuclear tests in recent years to be “entirely groundless,” the Global Times reports.
"The US accusations that China is conducting nuclear explosive tests are entirely groundless," Shen Jian, Chinese ambassador for disarmament affairs, said at a high-level meeting on disarmament in Geneva, Switzerland, according to the China Central Television (CCTV).
As he stressed, China firmly supports the purpose and objectives of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.
Shen noted that China urges the US to reaffirm the commitment of the five nuclear-weapon states to a moratorium on nuclear testing and to uphold the global consensus.
According to him, the aforementioned accusations made by the US against China are "merely an excuse fabricated [by the US] to justify its own potential resumption of nuclear testing."
