The Netherlands plans to maintain observer status at the US-led Board of Peace, which is discussing the settlement of the Gaza Strip, announced the new Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten.

“We [i.e. The Netherlands] will continue to act as observers at the Board of Peace,” Jetten said at a press conference dedicated to the swearing in of the new Dutch government.

Jetten added that The Hague supports “all initiatives aimed at improving the situation” of the residents of Gaza and efforts to achieve a full and lasting peace in this Palestinian enclave.

The creation of the Board of Peace was part of US President Donald Trump's proposed plan to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

About 60 world leaders were invited to join the Board of Peace, some of whom—including Armenia—are founding members. Trump has become the first chairman of the Board of Peace.

The opening ceremony of the Board of Peace took place on January 22, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
